Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the newly introduced XP-Endo finisher file after using ProTaper NEXT till X3, in regards to extrusion of debris, cleanliness of the canal and the dentin thickness in comparison to the full sequence of the ProTaper NEXT. A total of fifty-two oval shaped canal teeth with complete root formation, no caries, no resorption and with no calcified canals were selected and used in this study. Samples were divided into two groups (twenty-six each). The first group which is the control one was the full sequence preparation by the ProTaper NEXT. The second group was preparation till X3 of the ProTaper NEXT followed by finishing by the XP- Endo finisher. Apical extrusion of debris was assessed by placing samples in an assembly described by Myers and Montgomery to receive the apically extruded debris during root canal enlargement. A microbalance was used to weigh the extruded debris after total dryness. Dentin thickness was assessed and all samples were evaluated using CBCT to assess the dentin thickness. Pre and post instrumentation images were scanned, with a specific voxel size, milliampere, scanning time according to the manufacturer{u2019}s specifications. Teeth were placed in a cast compound mold for easy placement and removal. All surfaces (buccal, lingual, mesial, and distal) were scanned, measures were plotted at (3, 5, 7 mm from the apex). Pre and post instrumentation images were collected and subtraction of both images were done and evaluated. There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative pain between the two groups regarding age, gender, tooth type and number of roots
