Abstract Professional nurses should be able to identify a need for defining consistent nursing standards of care and nursing standard of professional performance to guide the delivery of nursing care to consumers.The aim of this study was to assess staff nurses’ compliance with nursing care standards at the high risk neonates unit in selected hospitals from ministry of health at Gharbia governorate. The study was conducted in two settings of high risk neonate, basion central hospital, and Elminshawi general hospital. The study sample was (90) staff nurses .Data were collected using one tool self administered questionnaire and direct observation checklist for nurses performance standards. The findings showed that nurses had low compliance with standard of care. While, there was no significant relationship between nurses’ education and nurses’ compliance with standards of care, there was a significant relationship between nurses’ attendance of training courses, years of experience and nurses’ compliance with standards of care. The main recommendations of the study were that, Improve nurses education and training, ongoing clinical and theoretical competency evaluation should be carried out for nurses in all clinical settings, accountability system must be applied based on performance appraisal out comes, develop criteria for selecting suitable nurses to work in high risk neonates units, Increase the number of nurses In each high risk neonates unit based on international nurse patient ratio |
