Abstract Development of light weight concrete is gaining popularity in recent years. Its advantages in saving structural loads and providing thermal insulation in today{u2019}s structures are very attractive. Expanded Polystyrene beads may be used as the coarse aggregate in lightweight concrete mixes when properly proportioned with other constituents. The main aim of this research is to study the behavior the expanded polystyrene light weight concrete when exposed to elevated temperature for different periods and compare it with the behavior of normal weight concrete. The results showed higher relative performance of EPS light weight concrete with respect to the compressive strength especially above 200oC. Also, an increase in mass loss percentage with a rise in temperature except at 400oC for two hours in EPS concrete mixes where a decrease in mass loss percentage happened |
