Abstract The tight, faulted, and stratified gas reservoirs pose a challenge for history matching and prediction of their performance. The problem is even more complex when wells are commingled and produce from different compartments/layers. In this work, we used the compartmented reservoir modeling approach to build a new model for forecasting the performance of gas reservoirs that handles all the above cases. The idea extends both the well-known compartmented gas reservoir model and a newer approach to model gas well behavior. The model comprises three main types of equations, including: material balance equations, gas and oil cross flow equations, and inflow performance equations. In history matching mode, the model assumes: Original Gas-In place (OGIP) for every compartment, transmissibility factors between connected compartments, and wells{u2019} deliverability coefficients; and the system of equations is solved simultaneously. Model results are matched with the observation data to verify the accuracy of the assumed parameters. Validation cases showed that the model runs in reasonable time and can handle multiphase flow inside reservoir, tightness effect, cross flow in faulted reservoirs, and cross flow via wellbore in commingled wells. The model was then used to analyze the performance of high pressure and high temperature gas condensate field and two dry gas fields. The model provided acceptable results compared with field data |
