Abstract This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 40 children with mild, moderate and severe and persistent bronchial asthma and 40 age and sex matched healthy children taken as controls. All study group were subjected to complete clinical study, CBC, IgE and an estimation of serum lipoxin levels and Eotaxin level were performed using (ELISA) kit. Our results showed that Serum lipoxin levels in lipoxin levels were statistically higher in cases compared to control (P value < 0.001). Lipoxin levels in mild asthmatics were significantly higher than in moderate and severe asthmatics (median of lipoxin for mild cases 1.7pg/ml while median for moderate cases 0.6pg/ml and median for severe asthmatics 0.4pg/ml) P <0.001)but no statistical significant difference between severe cases and control group ( P 0.349). Our results showed that Serum Eotaxin levels were statistically higher in cases compared to control(P value< 0.001). Eotaxin levels in mild asthmatics were significantly higher than in moderate and severe asthmatics (median of Eotaxin for mild cases 1.6 pg/ml while median for moderate cases 0.57pg/ml and median for severe asthmatics 0.58pg/ml) P <0.001)but no statistical significant difference between severe cases and control group( P 0.349). These results explains the role of lipoxin as and Eotaxin in asthma and may have a role in assessment of the grades of severity of bronchial asthma in children. Our results showed linear relation between Lipoxin levels and Eotaxin levels |
