Abstract Title: Outcome of Arthroscopic versus Open Reduction and Internal fixation of Tibial Spine Avulsion Fractures Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess and compare the early results of arthroscopic versus open reduction and internal fixation of tibial spine avulsion fractures.Materials and methods:This was a prospective study conducted on patients with tibial spine avulsion fracture who were randomly allocated to one of two groups; group 1 who underwent arthroscopic reduction & internal fixation via sutures and group 2 who underwent open reduction & internal fixation via screws. All patients were assessed and examined clinically and radiologically and fulfilled scores preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative. Results: Results were compared among cases within each group and were compared between both groups and all the results were statistically analyzed. Our study showed after comparison and analysis of results between both groups that there were no statistically significant differences between both groups as regard clinical, functional and radiological outcomes. Conclusions: The results of our study indicated that patients who underwent either, arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation via sutures or open reduction and internal fixation via screws both had excellent and nearly equal clinical, functional and radiological outcomes.Open reduction and internal fixation had some advantages over arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation including shorter operative time and lower operational costs. |
