Abstract

The herb Portulaca oleracea L. is widely used as a vegetable. Purslane, kurfa, or hogweed are some of their common names. The plant belongs to the order Caryophyllales, division Magnoliophyta, and class Magnoliopsida, subclass Caryophyllidae. Because of its high omega-3 fatty acid content and antioxidant qualities, PO is a good source of nutrients. In many nations, Portulaca Oleracea(PO) has been used as a folk medicine, serving as a febrifuge, antiseptic, vermifuge, and so on. The World Health Organization has dubbed PO, one of the most often used medical herbs, the ”Global Panacea”. It has been utilized in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years and is characterized as a ”vegetable for long life” in Chinese folklore. The blood is cooled, bleeding is stopped, heat is cleared, and poisons are resolved using it. It is chilly and acidic in flavor. Fever, dysentery, diarrhea, carbuncle, eczema, and matochezia are all treated with the dried aerial section of this plant, with a recommended dose of 9–15 g. PO has a lot of potential as a meal for humans and animals, as well as a pharmacological agent in medicine. One hundred rats were included in this study; 50 control rats and 50 HFD/STZ induced rats, control rats were divided into five groups. HFD/STZ-induced rats were divided into five groups. In this study Fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, hepatic function tests, renal function tests, lipid profile, serum IL-6, and serum TNF-α by using ELISA and antioxidants parameters were estimated in 3 tissues liver, brain, and kidney . Results indicated that serum fasting glucose, fasting insulin level, urea, creatinine, uric acid, hepatic function tests, IL-6, TNF-α, and antioxidants parameters were significantly lowered in different tissues like brain, kidney, and liver (p< 0.01) in diabetic groups treated with portulaca at dose 200mg/kg, portulaca and metformin at dose 50mg /kg.
