Abstract

A common disability that has difficulty being diagnosed is conversion disease (functional neurological disorder). The connection between psychological stress and the development of the psychiatric illness is still up for debate among psychiatrists.
Our research shown that preceding psychosocial trauma plays a part in the development of conversion disorder and that specific conversion presentations can skip over particular forms of trauma. The stress-diathesis model does not apply.
The current study supports the idea of secondary gain in conversion patients because a large percentage of our patients experienced escape occurrences.
The results of the present investigation and our comprehensive review (Morsy et al., 2021) support the contribution of cultural factors to conversion disorder.
Conclusion
There were correlations between different types of traumatic incidents and CD symptoms; however, the enormous number of comparisons made made it difficult to be confident in these correlations, and they need to be confirmed in a larger sample. Furthermore, it was discovered that conversion disorder is influenced by cultural factors.
Limitations
Retrospective
1) The sample is difficult to generalise because it is entirely Australian.
2) A large number of associations may amplify the favourable bias.
3) Patients’ memories of the prior psychosocial trauma may be impacted by their chronic condition and any mental comorbidities they may have.
4) We don’t have a control group that could weaken the statistical analyses.
Prospective
1) A modest sample size was used (28 patients)
2) Because we lacked control groups, regression analysis was not performed.
3) Because the LEDS is so lengthy, patients become exhausted and/or DROP out rates rise.
In light of the aforementioned restrictions, we advise that you: 1) Obtain a bigger sample of individuals with functional neurological disorders (FND).
2) To support the statistical findings, other research incorporate a control group.
3. Draw attention to conversion disorder, which is a prevalent and incapacitating disorder in non-Western nations.
4) Insight into the neurology of conversion disease, if at all possible.
