Abstract Lifestyle plays an important role in the development of MI. Education of post MI patients about the lifestyle modification is important to prevent further attack of MI. This study was conducted to assess the lifestyle of post MI patients, to implement an educational intervention and to assess the effect of this intervention on lifestyle and health profile of post MI patients. It was an intervention study which passed through the following three phases: Phase 1 (pre-intervention): it took 2 months where 64 MI patients from ICU of Cardiology at Zagazig University Hospital were selected randomly and interviewed to fill questionnaire assessing their socio-demographic data, their knowledge about MI risk factors and their lifestyle. Also, measuring weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and lipid profile was done.Phase 2 (intervention): it took six months in the form of one to one discussion supported by booklets about risk factors of MI, the recommended lifestyle and how to dealing with hypertension and diabetes for MI patients with co-morbidities. Follow up was also done for every patient monthly.Phase 3 (post-intervention): It took 2 months where reassessment of knowledge about MI risk factors, lifestyle changes and patient measurements was done. |
