Abstract

Lymphadenopathy is an abnormal increase in size and/or altered consistency of the lymph nodes. The condition is generally not a disease by itself, rather, it may be a symptom of one of many possible underlying problems and serves as an excellent clue to them. Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) has been shown to increase conspicuity of subcentimeter lymph nodes due to suppression of background tissue and can aid in detection of lymph nodes relative to conventional sequences. (DWI) allows the characterization of tissues and lesions by difference in microstructure based on the analysis of water motion as architectural changes in the water molecule movement will alter the apparent diffusion coefficient and the signal intensity in DWI and apparent diffusion coefficient maps. The aim of the work is to assess the efficacy of diffusion weighted MRI and ADC in differentiation between malignant and benign cervical lymphadenopathy. This prospective study includes 50 patients referred to MR units of Radiodiagnosis and Clinical Oncology department at Tanta University Hospital, with symptoms of enlarged cervical lymph nodes. This study included 50 patients complaining of cervical lymph nodes swelling. 26 males (52%) & 24 females (48%) the age of our selected patients ranged from 5 to 69 years with a mean of 37.4.
