Abstract Composite girder is one of the main structural systems used in bridges and buildings. The slenderness requirements for steel sections are used with the same parameters also for the composite sections in most of known codes and specifications without considering the effect of concrete slabs. The compression concrete slab restrains the buckling tendency of the upper flange and eliminate it also in the compressed part of the beam{u2019}s web. The main conclusions of the study can be listed in the following points: Evaluation of section classifications by using finite element (FE) method. Using a new methodology to predict the section classification to use thinner web plates with weight and cost reductions. Proposing a relaxed equation for composite steel-concrete section classification limit between compact and non-compact. Studying the influence of concrete strength and girder length on the web local buckling behavior |
