Abstract

The main purpose of the current study is to investigate the impact of working retirees{u2019} satisfaction on job performance and the mediating role of intrinsic motivation. The working retirees appear in Egypt in large number in the academic staff and the judges who continue to work after the retirement age because the rules of these jobs are stipulating that after the age of retirement they can to continue to work unless they have health issues that prevent them from doing the job. Therefore, the current study is focusing on their satisfaction and its impact on job performance that as a sequence impacts organizational performance. Uncovering working retirees importance may lead other sectors to focus on the retirees because they are considered to be of great importance to the organization according to the knowledge and experiences they have and losing them means losing knowledge and experiences, so organizations in any other sector should retain and hire them as consultants, experts or advisory board. The current study was conducted on the higher education sector because of the importance of this sector and also the percentage of the working retirees (Emeritus Professors) in this sector is relatively high that can reach up to 30% of the total number of the academic staff. Port Said University is used as a case study. Data collected from all the working retirees (Emeritus Professors) at Port Said University, a total of 121 responses with a response rate of 87.05%. The findings of the current study show that working retirees{u2019} satisfaction has a significant, positive impact on job performance and the intrinsic motivation mediates the impact of working retirees{u2019} satisfaction on job performance
