Abstract Fourier transformation Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy provides a sensitive molecular fingerprint for tissue without external markers. This method can be used to identify the tissue type based on the spectroscopic fingerprint. Infrared spectrometers can analyze tissues within few minutes. In the current study, different pediatric brain tumors tissues sections, as well as normal brain tissue (autopsy), was acquired. FTIR technique was applied, and the IR spectra from all sections were obtained. The peaks of the tumors spectra were assigned and compared to the peaks of the normal spectrum as well as were correlated with the degree of malignancy. Also, the results were compared with the well-established magnetic resonance spectroscopy technique. The results revealed that, the FTIR technique has a potential to differentiate between the normal and abnormal tissues in pediatric brain |
