Abstract WDTC is the most common and least aggressive subtypes of thyroid cancer, with most patients have good prognosis. However, recurrence can occurs , and may be in a high rate due to several contributing factors. Pathological subtypes, initial stage, degree of extrathyroidal extension, lymph nodes metastasis, age, and initial surgical approach were all found to be related to recurrence. In this study, lymph node capsular invasion with the tumor was found to have positive correlation with incidence of recurrences. (P-value < 0.05 ). FDG- PET -CT may be a promising techniques that may be used in the detection of recurrent well differentiated thyroid cancer in patients with elevated serum (Tg) and negative whole body iodine scan. FDG-PET -CT may help in taking proper decision regarding neck management , whether to do unilateral or bilateral ,and type of neck dissection. With more patients involved in such studies better evaluation of this emerging technique may take place to accurately define patients who will gain the most benefit of it. Objectives :- to assess pattern of failure in patient with recurrent well differentiated thyroid cancer (WDTC) according IX to clinical and biological factors, and to assess role of FDG PET CT in management of those patients , and its effect on decision of surgery. Methods :- this is a one center study, designed to have a retrospective part and a prospective part. In the retrospective part , data was collected from patients who attended to NCI with recurrent WDTC between June 2014 and June 2015 regarding demographic data , pathology, investigations, and treatment received to assess factor affecting recurrence. In the prospective part, patients came with recurrence were investigated , FDG PET CT was done, and management decision was taken according to FDG PET CT findings, and results was analyzed |
