Abstract Objective; measuring serum taurine level beside ophthalmosopic examination as a pre early marker of diabetic retinopathy Patients and Methods, Eighty diabetic patients suffered from blurring in vision divided in to five groups according stages of disease diagnosed by ophthalmoscope to ; group1 enrolled as diabetic control group , group 2(mild) , group 3 (moderate) , group 4 (sever)non- proliferative retinopathy and group 5(proliferative retinopathy). Beside twenty healthy persons enrolled as a volunteer consider as frank control group.Complete clinical examination, investigation and biochemical analysis as (liver enzymes ,kidney function and lipid profile ), add to measuring FBG,HbA1c,VEGF and the recent biomarker taurine, was measured for all patients and volunteers beside ophthalmoscopic examination were done for all patients. Results ; showed that no changes in kidney functions as (creatinine, urea and albumin) compared with frank group. On contrary, recorded in measuring microalbumin and albumin /creatinine ratio in urine when the result showed extremely significant change between frank control group and different diabetic groups (P<0.0001). The lab of the NIDE and according to the method used the level of AST considered as normal below 40 U/L. and ALT below 50 U/L. So, the level of both enzymes showed mild significant changes for diabetic patients compared with frank control group but still in normal range (P>0.01) . All the examined diabetic patients showed mild hypercholesterolemia compared with frank control group. The results revealed a non-significant change in the level of TG, HDL and LDL between the difference diabetic groups or between the diabetic groups and frank persons. Marked elevation in FBG and HbA1c in all diabetic patients comparing to that recorded in frank control group (P=0.001) |
