Abstract The present study discusses the effects of geotechnical properties of G. Gattar granites (GI {u2013} GII {u2013} GVII) on underground mining in the Nubian Shield and applying the geotechnical aspects to assign the rock mass quality, excavation procedures, support design systems and the stability for the present and future mining activities in the area of study. In order to achieve the aims of the study, field works, laboratory tests and rock mass classification systems were carried out. Field works involved geological mapping, detailed discontinuity surveying and sampling. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the rock units. The rock mass rating and rock mass quality classification systems were employed for excavation procedures and support design systems. The present work and analyses results, led to consider the present mines in the area of study as stable, determine the excavation procedures and support design systems for future mining activities in the area of study |
