Abstract The present work is assigned to study the corrosion behavior of AA6061 in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution and the inhibiting effect of some novel synthesized ionic liquid compounds. The obtained results showed that the inhibition efficiency of these compounds increased by increasing their concentration, decreased by raising temperature so that the adsorption of these ionic liquids is physical and the adsorption of the ionic liquids on AA6061 surface in 1 M hydrochloric acid follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization technique was used as a second method to study the inhibiting effect of the used ionic liquids. from these results it was found that these ionic liquids act as mixed type inhibitors. Also, impedance spectroscopy measurement was used. Some thermodynamic parameters are computed and discussed. The surface morphology of the surface was studies using X-ray photoelectron microscopy. The obtained results of all methods are in good agreement. Theoretical study done by DFT and MC confirm the experimental techniques results. |
