Abstract This study aims to verify the effects of welding parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar austenitic AISI304 stainless steel/ductile cast iron (DCI) shielded metal arc welded joints. The main welding parameters investigated in this study are different types of electrodes for shielded metal arc welding process (SMAW) such as Inconel182 (ENiCrFe-3), Cast iron-NiFe-electrode (ENiFe-CI), stainless steel electrodes E309L and E502-16 electrode, different welding procedures (welding with and without buttering techniques at DCI side using Al-Bronze filler metal (ER Cu Al-A2) and )ENiFe-CI) and then filling V-groove (Root and cap) with same and different electrodes. Visual and radiographic inspections were performed for all the specimens. Microstructure features and constituents of base metals, heat affected zones (HAZ) and weld metal of all weldments were examined and analyzed using optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. Furthermore, hardness measurements, tensile test and vnotch impact toughness testing were carried out for all welded specimens. Results showed that, using Inconel182 (ENiCrFe-3) and Cast ironNi-Fe-electrode (ENiFe-CI) for root pass and filling the weld groove, respectively with the joint tensile strength was 442MPa |
