Abstract The aim of this thesis is studying the physical and mechanical properties of magnesia. Since magnesia is highly reactive to moisture, in industrial application we would rather speak about magnesia in its hydrated form. The magnesium hydroxide formed due to this reactivity in aqueous suspensions were prepared over a wide range of different types of dispersants (Na-Cit,Na-phos, Na-Lig,Ca-Lig) with different dosages percentage(0.01,0.03,0.05,0.07). The effect of dispersant types and dispersant dosages on the rheological behavior and stability of magnesium hydroxide aqueous suspensions have been investigated by means of viscosity, sedimentation measurements, flowability, TOC and zeta potential. The results showed that considering the four types of dispersants, Ca-lig enhances the viscosity and flowability of the slurry the most. Also, it decreases the pH of slurry. The effect of adding hygroscopic magnesia particles to epoxy-resin on the mechanical properties was studied. The percentages used were 30, 40 and 50 weight percentage for mechanical properties. As the weight percentage of hygroscopic magnesia increases the mechanical properties slightly decreases.
