Abstract his study was conducted during the seasons 2015-2016 on Barhi date palm fruits in order to study the effect of postharvest treatments by immersion in immersion in 1.5 %chitosan, Aloe Vera gel 1:3 ratio with water, 4%Propolis extract, 4% calcium chloride, each alone and combination of them compared with control (un treated) as an alternative to reduce the discard and maintain quality attributes. The treated fruits stored up to 90 days at 0{u00B0}C and relative humidity (RH) 90-95% to study quality attributes (decay%, loss in weight%, color, rutab %, firmness, %, total soluble solids%, reducing sugars%, total sugars% ,total phenols, total tannins and enzyme activity of the fruits during storage periods. Results showed that decay%, weight loss%, change color, rutab%, T.S.S%, reducing sugars%, total sugars were increased whereas firmness, total phenols, total tannins and enzyme activity decreased by increasing storage period. All safe post-harvest treatments decreased the decay and maintained on physiochemical characters during cold storage compared with control. The results showed that using 1.5% chitosan + 4% ethanol-extracted propolis followed by 1.5% chitosan + Aloe Vera gel 1:3 ratio with water and 1.5% gave the lowest decay%, weight loss% , change color , rutab % the highest firmness and slow down compositional changes in total phenols, total sugars and total tannins associated with ripening |
