Abstract Hydroxychloroquine has been widely used in autoimmune diseases as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. The main concern with long-term hydroxychloroquine uses is toxic retinopathy. In 2002, the American academy of ophthalmology published the first recommendations on screening for hydroxychloroquine retinopathy. In 2011 and 2016, it published another revision.
