Abstract Background and aim : Theophylline toxicity continues to be a major clinical problem with potentially fatal cardiac and neurological complications .Therefore, the development of agents that have different mechanisms of action and can be used in combination with currently approved medications for the treatment of theophylline poisoning is highly desirable. Objectives: This experimental study was designed to investigate the potential role of amiodarone, the well-known antiarrythmic drug in treatment of chronic theophylline poisoning. Propranolol (non selective B-blocker) is used as a standard drug for comparison. The study was extended to show the potential anticonvulsant and theraputic effect of amiodarone against gastric erosions which occurs with theophylline poisoning |
