Abstract

Azhar oil Field is located to the west of the Nile River, bounded by latitudes 29{u00B0} 06{u2019}-29{u00B0} 10{u2019} N and longitudes 30{u00B0} 51{u2019}-30{u00B0} 58{u2019} E in the west Beni-Suef concession area (Beni Suef Basin), Western Desert, Egypt.). The aim of this thesis is studying reservoir characterization and quality of Abu Roash3G3 Member sandstone in Azhar oil field. Based on structural analysis of seismic lines, many faults were identified with different trends NW-SE, ENE-WSW and NE-SW directions, they were formed during Early and Late Cretaceous. The principal structures which are responsible for hydrocarbon entrapment in the study area are the normal and strike slip faults. These faults resulted into three-way dipping closure representing the main structure hydrocarbon trap. Hydrocarbon were migrated from adjacent structural low area (e.g. releasing bend and SW part of the field) to the structural high area of Azhar closure. Facies analysis and sedimentological studies were performed by integration of well logs with core data, petrographic samples and mud logging ditch cutting description to investigate depositional environment, mineralogical composition and texture characteristics. Upper and Lower Abu Roash3G3 sandstones were deposited in a coastal-marine environment including (tidal sand flat, tidal channel, tidal bar and tidal mixed flat).
