Abstract

Lichen Planus (LP) is a dermatological disease affecting skin and / or mucous membranes. Among the various miRNAs playing a possible role in the control of the immune response, MicroRNA-155 is one of the MicroRNAs (miRNAs) that emerged as key regulator of the immune system, and it may have a role in the pathogenesis or the prognosis of many diseases including lichen planus. The aim of this study is to detect expression of MiRNA-155 and its possible effect on Th-17 cells by estimating level of Interleukin-17 and Interleukin-22 levels in patients with Lichen Planus. This study was done on 60 patients of lichen planus and 30 healthy controls classified into three groups, group 1: including 30 control healthy subjects, group 2: 30 oral lichen planus cases and group 3: 30 cutaneous lichen planus patients. MiRNA-155 level was estimated by Real-time PCR. Serum levels of IL-17 and IL-22 were measured by enzyme linked Immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Patients with lichen planus showed increased expression of MiRNA-155 relative to controls, elevated level of IL-17 and IL-22 compared to controls, MiRNA-155, IL-17 and IL-22 were positively correlated to each other, they also positively correlated to duration of the disease in case of cutaneous type
