Abstract

Background: Advancements in laser technology have not only shortened the time needed to cut femtosecond LASIK flaps ,but also enabled refractive surgeons to customize side-cut architecture ,so the inverted side-cut flaps result in less dry eye , better wound healing and improved apposition of severed nerves because of the biomechanical superiority of the inverted side- cut with femtosecond laser flaps .In addition, the flap settless into a pocket when it is reseated, providing additional stability , so there is significant differences in wound healing.Purpose : To compare the intended versus the achieved side cut angle of corneal flaps in femtosecond laser in-situ keratomileusis versus the conventional microkeratome. Methods : A prospective non randomized interventional clinical trial was conducted on 40 eyes ( 20 eyes per group ) between Dec 2017 and August 2018. Heidelberg anterior segment OCT was done for the patients,The high resolution images obtained with the Heidelberg anterior segment OCT show the layers of the cornea in details and aid in the assessment of side cut angle 2 weeks postoperativly
