Abstract This study was performed on ten adult patients suffering from parasymphyseal fracture factures with and without any concomitant fractures to investigate the feasibility and accuracy of computer-generated patient-specific templates for open reduction and internal fixation by plates. Ten patients were selected from the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery department clinic, faculty of oral and dental medicine, Cairo University. All patients were males. Ranging age is from twenty to forty years old. They were suffering from parasymphyseal fracture. Etiological factor ranged from violence to road and traffic accidents. Each patient was carefully examined both clinically and radiographically and diagnosis was established accordingly. Pre-operative Ct was made and using third party software and specific patient surgical guide was fabricated. Under general anesthesia, the fracture was approached intra orally via mandibular vestibular incision. Fragments reduced to pre injury position. Patient specific template surgical guide was secured and fixed in place by two screws. Patients made post-operative CT scans and was followed up clinically for 3 months. Results showed eventful healing of all fractured. With post healing infection in two cases only No injury to any vital structures such as mandibular nerve or teeth. The hypothesis of the computer-generated patient-specific template guide to provide simplicity, feasibility and accuracy for proper reduction of parasymphyseal fracture is successful but needs wide exposure than usual and so it’s highly recommended with concomitant bilateral subcondylar fracture |
