Abstract

Two field experiments were conducted at Experimental Farm, Alexandria University, Alexandria Governorate, Egypt, during the two winter seasons of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 to study the effect of foliar application of salicylic acid and yeast extract to reduce the salt stress effect on wheat, i.e. Giza 171 cultivar, using yield measurement to determine the best salicylic acid concentration and yeast extract that maximized yield and quality of wheat under salt stress conditions.
The two factorial experiments were laid out in rondomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in both seasons. The first factor was salicylic acid concntrations (spray water, 150, 300 and 450 ml/l), while the second factor was yeast (water = control, 2, 4 and 6 g/l water) in both seasons. Sowing dates were in 22nd November and 20th November, in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, respectively.
The area of plot was 10.5 m2 as 3.5 meters long and 3.0 m width. The broadcasting method called (Afair) was used at seeding rate of 70 kg/fed and all the other cultural practices were followed as the recommendation of Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation recommendations. The commercial SA from El Jomhoureya Company – Cairo- Egypt was prepared in concentrations of 150, 300 and 450 ml/l and sprayed two times during the tow growing seasons after 30, and 45 days after sowing at the same time control was sprayed with tab water.
Phosphorus fertilizer was added at rate of 24kg P2O5/fed. As calcium super phosphate (15.5 % P2O5) just before sowing. Mineral nitrogen fertilizer at (70 kg N/fed) was applied in the form of urea (46.5 % N) at two equal doses before the first and second irrigations.
