Abstract

Name: Eman El-Sayed Abd El-Hay Sheneshen
Title of thesis: Chemical studies for removal some toxic elements from liquid industrial waste by using ion exchanger
Degree: Ph. Degree in Environmental Science, Department of Environmental Sciences and Industrial Development, Faculty of Postgraduate Studies for Advanced Sciences, Beni-Suef University, and 2022.The thesis was directed to find the optimum conditions for removal of some toxic metal ions using ion exchange prepared material.
A laboratory batch technique carried out to study the impact of initial concentration, pH, temperature, a dose of adsorbent and contact time on the elimination of studied ions Mg+2, Ca+2, Pb+2 and Co+2onto oil shell sedimentary rock as natural clay. Two natural inorganic composites Kaolinite/Smectite-A and Kaolinite/ Smectite-B have been used. The removal of studied ions Mg+2, Ca+2, Pb+2 and Co+2 enlarge with rising initial metal solution concentration, contact time and pH. The elimination reaction speed was high at the initial period of contact time and then decreased to attain equilibrium for Kaolinite/Smectite-A and Kaolinite/Smectite-B adsorbents.
The physico-chemical properties of used material were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), XRD, IR and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). PH titration, thermal, chemical stability and distribution behavior, etc. were also carried out to understand the behavior of the material.
Mutually, Langmuir and Freundlich’s isotherms are applicable to describe the metals adsorption
Exchange isotherms for H+/Co+2, H+/Mg2+, H+/Ca+2 and H+/Pb+2 were determined at 30, 40,55,65 and 75±1Co.
Kinetic study of exchange for the metal ions has been performed Moreover, the values of thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy ∆G, entropy ΔS and enthalpy ΔH for the adsorption of Ca+2, Mg+2, Co+2 and Pb+2ions on composite showing that the of type overall adsorption
Finally, removal of the above mentioned cations on natural composite was performed.
