Management of Pediatric Ankle Fractures: Distal Tibia and Fibula Fractures

Abstract
We included 24 patients; all patients were under 14 years old, 91.7% had a closed wounds.SH classifications showed 66.7% had SH2.Complication rates were, 16.7%( infection), 12.5% (Back out of wires),8.3% (nonunion) and majority of patients (62.5%) did not develop any complications. All patients underwent operative treatment. Range of motion was less than 10 degrees difference in 79.2% of patients and more than 10 degrees difference in 20.8% of patients. Premature physeal closure after 6 months occurred in 8.3% of patients. We classified complications according to SH classification. Range of motion with less than 10 degrees difference were mostly of class SH2 (73.7%) while in more than 10 degrees difference were 40.0% of class SH2 , 20.0% of class SH3 and 40.0% of class SH4.
