Abstract

The thesis describes the development of an improved adsorptive hydrogel with high heavy metal removal efficiency and high utilization to achieve better performance at a reduced cost for the treatment of industrial wastewater contaminated with heavy metals (as electroplating wastewater) and treatment of water from any contamination with heavy metals. That thesis was divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduced general information about hydrogels classification, hydrogel application, heavy metals removal methods, adsorption, and desorption. Specifically, hydrogel applications such as (drug delivery, scaffolds in tissue engineering, contact lenses, injectable hydrogel for spinal cord regeneration, supercapacitor hydrogels, dyes/heavy metal ions removal, and wastewater treatment). Wastewater treatment methods as (physicochemical methods, chemical precipitation, coagulation/flocculation, electrochemical treatments, ion exchange, membrane filtration, electrodialysis, and biological methods). Introducing some adsorption topics as (adsorption process, adsorbents, and adsorption capacity). Adsorption characterization models such as (isotherm, kinetics, and thermodynamic) Desorption techniques as (thermal, ultrasonic method, chemical, and electrochemical). Introducing some electrochemical desorption topics as (conventional electrochemical methods, hybrid electrochemical process, and electrochemical parameters)
