Abstract

In the past two centenaries, Egyptian architecture tended to follow the western model of architecture far away from its roots and cultural background. The cultural reference of this model was based on a purely western ideology, following their own paradigm shifts that don{u2019}t match ours.Thus, a broad understanding of the creative process of traditional Islamic architecture is crucial to boost our architectural reality and redirect it to a more proper course. When put in a proper context, the ideas and ideologies behind Islamic architecture can be examined and used to enhance contemporary practice.Therefore, this research tends to formulate a unified theory Cairene traditional Mosque architecture, through analytically reviewing the three common interpretive approaches of Islamic architecture, in order to apply and examine their validity on selected case studies. Based on the literature review and the case study analysis, a new holistic perspective of Islamic architecture is introduced
