Abstract

Background: Urinary incontinence is a global public problem of health that affects plenty of women and has significant socioeconomic consequences. It can also have an effect on one’s life quality, as well as contribute to feelings of loneliness and depression. Aim of work: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of urinary incontinence among postmenopausal women.Subjects: Five hundred postmenopausal women were selected from different hospitals and health care provider in Cairo and Giza governorate, their age ranged from 55 to 65 years old and their last menstruation was from at least one year ago and their body mass index less than 30 Kg/m2. Materials and Methods: The prevalence of urinary incontinence was assessed through the urinary incontinence questionnaire. Results: The results of the prevalence of urinary incontinence in this study was (57.8%).The results of the prevalence of stress urinary incontinence of this study was (40%), urge urinary incontinence of this study was (30%) and mixed urinary incontinence of this study was (30%).There was a significant increase in the prevalence of urinary incontinence in subjects with mixed types of deliveries (vaginal and cesarean deliveries) compared with each type alone. There was a significant increase in the prevalence of urinary incontinence in subjects with 4-10 vaginal deliveries compared with that of 0-3 vaginal deliveries. There was no significant difference in the prevalence of urinary incontinence between subjects with normal and subjects with overweight
