Abstract Background: chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) is frequently occuring chronic non-neoplastic lesion of the nasal or paranasal sinus mucosa. With still unclear pathogenesis, the disease is accepted to be a expression of complex inflammatory reactions. Vitamin D3 [VD3] is considered to be the powerful immune-modulatory steroid hormone engaged in the regulation of an assortment of cell types that involves in the local immune response. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the serum level of Vitamin D3 in patient with sinonasal polyposis as compared to healthy control and its relation to age, gender and disease severity in CT. Method: This cross-sectional analytical investigation was performed at ENT Department of Kasr Al Ainy University Hospital during the period from August 2020 to February 2021. This Study included 72 participants divided into two groups, 36 cases of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) and 36 healthy volunteers who were enlisted after matching inclusion and exclusion criteria and subsequent to taking consent.Serum Vitamin D3 level was estimated by High performance liquid chromatography technique (HPLC) and disease severity in CT was evaluated by Lund Mackay Scoring. Result: The study showed that there was highly significant statistical difference between patient and control groups in regards to 25-hydroxyl Vitamin D3 level, Mean 25-hydroxyl Vitamin D3 Level was 24.82 ± 8.93 ng/ml, 15.32 ± 5.89 ng/ml in control and patient groups respectively (p=0.000), And there was significant negative correlation between Vitamin D3 level (ng/ml) and Lund-Mackay Score (-0.426, P = 0.011) |
