Abstract

Non-penetrating glaucoma surgery (NPDS) like viscocanalostomy, canaloplasty and NPDS were made popular seeking safer alternatives to PT mainly to avert from the unwarranted complications of the latter. NPDS has been studied, compared and contrasted to the convectional trabeculectomy and the majority of the researches findings are promising.
Our study looked at the different preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative factors and see their influence on the long run filtration ability of NPDS after a 2 year follow up.
The preoperative factors involved in the current study were: Age, Lens status, preoperative IOP, preoperative medication (AA), preoperative duration of topical medications, preoperative surgeries, ocular surface integrity whether good or bad and presence of other ocular problems. Preoperative IOP had the most significance relation with the results among the preoperative factors. The trend of significance was relative in both the postoperative IOP and the success and failure of the study. The only other factor that depicted relevance to the results was the preoperative medication with value almost encroaching significance level.
Intraoperative parameters that were under evaluation included number of times antimetabolite (5FU) was used, intraoperative manipulations and whether NPDS was alone or combined with cataract phacoemulsification, however we could not establish any link with the outcome of this research.
Postoperatively the variables investigated included postoperative number of medications, postoperative interventions and complications. The first two exhibited a solid relation with the outcomes and have been expressed to as potent predictors of failure of NPDS. Intra and postoperative complications likewise displayed an association with success and failure of NPDS nonetheless it was not statistical significant.
