Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic autoimmune disorder of unidentified etiology characterized by a chronic inflammation which causes damage of joints and is accompanied by poor quality of life and decreased life expectancy. The adipokine Lipocalin 2(LCN2) has a role in many cellular events, such as immune responses and differentiation obesity is risk for RA development, it could have a significant effect on RA incidence, given the epidemic rise in obesity prevalence in recent years This study aims to assess the role of lipocaline-2 in obese RA patients and disease activity by measuring serum levels of LCN-2 and correlate it with disease activity and body mass index. The study was a cross sectional comparative study included 30 RA non-obese patients and 30 RA obese patients and 30 normal controls. RA patients were evaluated for swollen and tender joint counts , ESR , CRP , RF , anti CCP were measured , DAS 28-ESR , DAS 28-CRP and modified sharp score. Serum lipocalin levels were assessed to all participants using ELISA techniqes
