Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of omega3 fatty acids
as diet enhanced immunity on sepsis in critically ill patients.
Patients were randomized into two equal groups: group A (30
patients) and group B control group (30patients).
The study results showed:
- There was no statistically significant difference between the two
groups as regard demographic data (gender & age), source of
infection, and initial SOFA score.
- The mean levels of WBCs, CRP and PCT were significantly
decreased in group A compared to group B.
- SOFA score showed statistically insignificant difference between
the two groups during the hospital course.
- Days free from mechanical ventilation showed statistically
insignificant reduction in both groups.
- The need for the vasopressor showed statistically insignificant
reduction in both groups.
- The length of stay in intensive care was significantly decreased in
group A compared to group B.
- The mortality rate showed statistically insignificant reduction in
both groups.
