Abstract Obesity is increasing in prevalence and represents a major concern for the healthcare system all over the world. It is a multifactorial disease. It has increased in prevalence among both adults and children. Consequences of obesity have been recognized as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular problems, and psychological morbidity. Bariatric surgery is considered the only effective long-term treatment for morbid obesity. Procedures include laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, vertical banded gastroplasty and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. |
