The agriculture sector is considered one of the most important sectors of development in Egypt and a major building block in the local economic structures. so the state is constantly interested in achieving self-sufficiency and providing export crops to achieve sustainable economic development goals and maximize revenues from agricultural exports. especially vegetable crops. which rank second in terms of per capita consumption annually after grain crops.Potatoes are considered one of the strategic export vegetable crops in Egypt because they are an export food crop on which some food industries are based. and potatoes occupy an important position among the food crops in the world and come in fourth place after wheat. corn and rice where Egypt is one of the main producing and exporting countries for potato crop in the Middle East where it is exported fresh to some European countries in times of lack of availability and therefore is considered an important export commodity on which the Egyptian economy depends. potato production has reached in Egypt about 4.3 million tons in 2017, and in recent years many varieties of new potatoes with high manufacturing specifications have been introduced. which has increased the per capita consumption of potatoes to more than 3 kg per year. whether fresh or manufactured potatoes.
