Abstract

In this study, cost-effective and highly surface area nanocomposite was fabricated using polyaminophenol with glycerol via co-precipitation method. The synthesis of P(oAP)/G nanocompsite was optimized for enhancing its
properties. The morphology of the modified P(oAP) was changed from nanorod into the urchin shape after incorporating of glycerol. The newly formed nanocomposite proved high efficiency in Co2+ ions removal from aqueous solutions. Variable parameters were used in the optimization process such as pH, time, catalyst dose and Co2+ ions concentrations. It was found that the adsorption efficiency was 96% at pH = 8 with maximum capacity qemax of 117.9 mg/g, which was strongly pH dependent. Finally, this novel composite is considered a promising adsorbent which can be incorporated in industrial applications in the future. On the other hand, using the newly synthesised Ag@(PoAP)G as a new antibacterial agent has been tested in vitro using the agar diffusion method against four varieties of bacteria and two types of fungi. When (POAP)G conjugated with silver nanoparticles gives the lowest MIC values, which is good antimicrobial activity to minimize pathogen toxicity, the lowest concentration inhibits the development of microorganisms, the antimicrobial activity increases in addition to the silver nanoparticles.
