Abstract As a general rule, the burden of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases increases every year. Heart disease is an energy-depleting condition associated with decreased myocardial production of ATP,impaired mitochondrial function, abnormal calcium processing, and increased generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Many diseasemodifying therapies work in chronic heart disease by modulating neurohormones pathways that are unable to adapt, such as the renin, angiotensin and aldosterone hormones. |
