Abstract Stroke is a major health problem, representing the second cause of death and the third cause of disability worldwide. Posterior circulation ischemic stroke carries the worst prognosis among other stroke subtypes, with severe disability and death occurring in about 70% of patients. Since 2015, mechanical thrombectomy (MT) has become the standard of care for management of anterior circulation ischemic stroke (AIS) caused by large vessel occlusions (LVO). However, there are few studies proving the efficacy of this treatment modality in posterior circulation ischemic stroke. Aim of the work was to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and outcome of endovascular management of patients with posterior circulation acute ischemic stroke; and determining clinical and radiological predictors of good outcome. Subjects and Methods Databases of MT procedures for AIS due to LVO performed in Pitié Salpêtrière university hospital, Paris,France and Alexandria university hospitals network, Alexandria, Egypt from December 2010 to December 2020 were retrospectively queried. |
