Abstract Background: A care bundle is defined as the implementation of a small set of evidence- based interventions together for a defined pediatric and neonatal patient that when executed together giving better outcomes than implemented individually. Aim: To evaluate the effect of application of care bundle approach training program on Pediatric and Neonatal nurses performance for preventing device- associated infection. Setting: This study was conducted in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital, Cairo Governorate. Sampling: A convenient sample of 70 nurses working in Neonatal and Pediatric intensive care units at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital. Tools: two tools were used for data collection, First: An interviewing questionnaire divided into two parts: Part 1; nurses Demographics, Part 2; Nurses knowledge. Second: Observation checklists for assessing nurses performance regarding bundle of care. Results: less than one third of the studied nurses had unsatisfied knowledge preprogram, compared with more than three fourths of them has a satisfied post- program regarding the level of total knowledge about the bundles of care; Also Revealed there was a positive correlation and significant relation between total score of knowledge and their total score performance regarding bundles of care pre and post- program intervention. Conclusion: Education training program reported remarkable improvement in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units nurses knowledge and performance toward device bundles of care. Recommendations: The study recommended that updating knowledge and performance of ICUs nurses through continuing in-service educational programs and at regular intervals. |
