Abstract This thesis comprises three chapters: The first chapter concerned with a general review on Schiff bases and there importance in diverse fields of chemistry owing to their interestingproperties and their signaling mechanisms. Mechanisms of photochromism such as intramolecular hydrogen transfer, the metal sensors and detection of Cu2" ~ " and Zn2+, as well asthe aim of this investigation is also included in this chapter. The second chapterconcerned with special references to fluorescent schiff bases and signaling mechanisms. The third chapter devoted to the method of preparation of schiff bases Bis[4 (salicylideneamino)phenyl]-methane, Bis[4-(2-hydroxy Naphthalideneamino)phenyl]-methane and Bis[4-(cinmalideneamino)phenyl] -methane and the experimental techniques for characterization. The fourth chapter concerned with results and characterization of Schiff bases and is divided into four parts: The first part is devoted to discuss infrared spectra of the Schiff bases. The spectra displayed the characteristics bands including imine nitrogen (C=N), hydroxyl (OH) and (C-O) phenolic. The second part is related to elemental analysis and comparison between experimental and theoretical data. |
