Abstract Silicone oil has been an important adjunct for internal tamponade in the treatment of complicated retinal detachment for the past four decades. The use of Silicone oil in conjunction with advanced vitreous surgical techniques can successfully treat complicated retinal detachment (RD) The incidence of postoperative increase of IOP was detected after PPV and silicone oil injection. If it is undiagnosed or not treated in time, it would cause further damage to the optic nerve and the retina that is why IOP assessment is of paramount important in postoperative period. A total of 40 eyes of 40 patients were enrolled in this study. Mean age of the studied patients was 56.43 ± 9.44 years (range: 36 – 70 years),. Our study group was consisted of 18 (45.0%) female and 22 (55.0%) male patients. There were 28 (70.0%) right eyes and 12 (30.0%) left eyes. All the patients 40 patients (100%) undergone PPV and Silicone oil injection for different types of RD either Rhigmatogenous Retinal detachment (RRD), Tractional retinal detachment (TRD), Pseudophakic retinal detachment Mean values of IOP measured with APT and with GAT and differences in IOP measured with the two methods were obtained Average GAT Mean±SD =21.35 ± 6.06 Average APT Mean±SD =19.46 ± 5.29 P-value (0.074) showed non-significant difference ,GAT give higher but insignificant measurements than APT. Our findings revealed that there is a good agreement with minimal but insignificant differences between the GAT and the air-puff. However, the average IOP measured by GAT was relatively higher in silicone filled eyes. |
