Abstract

Series of laboratory experiments had been carried out in Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University to mitigate the liver injury resulting from hepatotoxic of imidacloprid (IM) and fipronil (FP) pesticides. To achieve that, first: the acute toxicities of the two studied pesticides, as well as the turmeric rhizomes extracts (TRE), were estimated on male mice. That was by estimating the value of LD50 for each of them, as well as calculating the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of turmeric rhizome extract. The histological changes associated with all previous treatments were also studied, the results obtained show that: The LD50 value of imidacloprid and fipronil were 343.07 and 99.74 mg /kg bw, respectively. The acute toxicity symptoms was dose-dependent for both pesticides. Imidacloprid toxicity symptoms occur quickly after dose administration. While, fipronil toxicity symptoms occurred about 12 hours after administration. The MTD values of imidacloprid and fipronil pesticide on mice were 38.94 and 13.6 mg/kg bw respectively. IM-treated mice had significant increases in livers and kidneys weights, while the spleen organs, had a significant decreases. FP-treated mice had significant increases in all organs’ weight, except the spleen organs, which had a significant decreases. Treated mice with fipronil pesticide had a significant increases in relative lunges weight. While, they had a significant decreases in relative spleen weight. The LD50 value of turmeric rhizomes extract was 6321.97 mg /kg bw for male mice. While there MTD value were 366.68 mg /kg bw.
