Abstract Summary : It is known that patients on hemodialysis suffer from different complications. Anemia and vitamin D deficiency are two of these complications. In this study we evaluated correlation between improving vitamin D deficiency with Vit D supplementation and effect on management of anemia. A total of 100 Hemodialysis Patients were enrolled in the present study. Patients were randomly selected using the closed envelop methods into 2 groups (1:1). First group received vitamin D 50.000 IU monthly for 6 months, and the other group received placebo for the same period. Each patient was followed up for a minimum of 6 months. The required dose of EPO to reach the target Hb was measured and statistically analyzed. Vitamin D supplementation increased Hb concentration more than Placebo over the time, and there is a statistically significant difference between the two groups in all times of follow up. Based on the main finding of this study, the required dose of EPO in ESRD patients on hemodialysis with vitamin D deficiency decreases with the administration of Vitamin D. |
