Abstract
This case control study enrolled 60 patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (based on clinical, laboratory, colonoscopic, and histopathological data), as study group and divided in to 2subgroups the first subgroup were on biological therapy and the second subgroup were on the conventional therapy.Another 51 healthy control subjects were enrolled as control group All patients either inpatient or outpatient in IBD clinic in ELRaghy hospital a. Inclusion criteria: all patients diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease will be included in this study Control group :comparable group with matched sex and age from those who were exposed to lower endoscopy for other indication than IBD b. Exclusion criteria: noc. Sample Size Calculation: calculated sample size:102 , 51 in each arm, 51 cases versus 51 control Study tools : both patients and control are exposed to the following ; Both patients and control are exposed to the following: laboratory investigationcomplete blood picture.(wbc,Hblevel, platelet,monocyte,MPv) liver functionkidney function Iron profile(serum iron ,serum ferritin) ESR(erythrocyte sedimentation rate) CRP(C reactive protein ) j- LDH((lactate dehydrogenase) Colonoscopy :for diagnosis and after 1 year of follow up treatment for evaluation outcome of treatment for all patients included in the study Histopatholgical examination was done for all cases which have positive colonscopic finding (ulcers ,mass, hyperemic mucosa)and also in all cases after one year as follow up examination. Abdominal us to detect the colon wall thickness, lymph nodes, tumours ,organomegaly. Doppler us to examine superior mesenteric artery. Follow up after 1 year by abdominal us and Doppler The results of this study showed that: Clinical finding and presentation: Duration of the disease among the patients group was 5.85 ± 3.16 years with range between one year and 13 years.
