Abstract
Fabrication of satisfied retention and A for complete denture in patient with mandibular flat ridge is very difficult. Recently, implant or ridge augmentation may solve this problem but for some reasons implant or surgery are not recommended because of economic, anatomical, psychological and systemic health conditions. In such cases, the patient resorts to use denture adhesive to improve its complete denture’s retention and stability so masticatory efficiency increased and finally his satisfaction with complete denture increased. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of three different forms of denture adhesives (paste, powder and cushion) on complete denture wearers as regards to, microbial colonization, direct measurement of mandibular denture retention and patient satisfaction. Twenty-one completely edentulous patients with mandibular flat ridge were selected. All patients were randomly classified according to the denture adhesive form into three equal groups 7 in each as follows: • group I: Patients used paste denture adhesive. • group II: Patients used powder denture adhesive. • group III: Patients used cushion denture adhesive. Swabs were taken from the buccal shelf area and immediately cultivated and incubated for microbiological evaluation. A digital force gauge was used to measure denture retention to vertical displacement by applying a pulling force on a metal hook attached to the geometric centre of the mandibular denture Measurements were taken before using denture adhesive and after using it at one month, three months and six months.
