Abstract Cerebral palsy is one of a number of neurological disorders that affect body movement and muscle coordination. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess mothers’ care toward their preschool children with cerebral palsy. Research design: A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted at the Neuropediatric Out-Patient Clinics at Benha University Hospital and Children Specialized Hospital in Benha City. Sample: Purposive sample of 51 mothers having children with confirmed diagnosis. Tool: A strucured interviewing questionnaire was used to assess a): Mothers socio-demographic charactaristics and personal characteristics of children. b): Medical history of children and medical history of mother’s involved in the study. c): Mothers knewledge about cerebral palsy and d): Reported practices of the studied mothers to care of their children with cerebral palsy. Results: 56.9% of the studied mothers aged 25- years old, 52.9% of the children aged from 3 < 4 years old, 100% of children have Problems during delivery, 62.7% of the mothers had poor total knowledge score about cerebral palsy and 66.9% of the studied mothers had unsatisfactory total practices score toward cerebral palsy children. Conclusion: There were statistically significant relations between total knowledge score of the studied mothers and their educational level and occupation. There was a positive correlation between total knowledge score of the studied mothers and their total practices score. Recommendations: Health educational programs are necessary to upgrade mother’s knowledge and care toward care of their cerebral palsy children. |
