Abstract This study demonstrates that the efficacy of using synthetic prosthetic materials (polypropylene) with addition of PRP and PRF as a bioactive materials for enhancement of abdominal wall defects reconstruction. 24 healthy mongrel dogs were allocated randomly to three groups (8 per each). Healing process was evaluated clinically, histopathologically and by gene expression analysis. The following results were obtained: 1. Animals were allocated into 3 groups; first was control group, second was PRP group and third was PRF group. Healing process was evaluated clinically, histopathologically and by gene expression analysis. 2. PRP has achieved better results in promotion of abdominal wall defects healing in dogs. 3. PRF has achieved better results in promotion of abdominal wall defects healing in dogs. 4. Both Platelet rich plasma and Platelet rich fibrin result in superior healing when used with polypropylene mesh to decrease the associated complications of using polypropylene mesh alone because of increased tissue deposition, incorporation, neovascularization and reduce intraperitoneal adhesion. 5. PRF has more advantages than PRP especially in clinical veterinary practice in term of easy preparation without using sophisticated materials or techniques, lower cost for owner and does not require a high level of technical skill. Moreover; its use showed significant reduction of intraperitoneal adhesion which considered one of the most common postoperative complications after hernia repair. |
